A total of 12 participants (8 from the Lebanese Armed Forces – LAF; and 4 from the Directorate General of General Security - GS) attended a workshop on Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) Investigations organized by the Netherlands-funded component of the Enhanced Capability for Integrated Border Management in Lebanon (IBM Lebanon), funded by the European Union.

The workshop was conducted over 2 days (18-19 September 2018) at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) Lebanon office, and facilitated by a joint training team from the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) and the Netherlands National Police. A representative of the Netherlands embassy in Lebanon also attended the workshop.

Through presentations and discussions trainers clarified the impact and legal context of THB before exploring investigative models used in the Netherlands and Lebanon.

With an excellent cross-section of operational roles represented, the findings from this workshop will also be used to prepare the content and delivery methodologies for the planned week-long Border Investigations’ courses scheduled for October and November this year.

The workshop was very positively received by participants, with significant interest in further training and other activities to develop investigative capabilities.
